Larissa Allen had some high, high praise of Big Freedia here at hissing lawns after seeing her perform in Atlanta way back in 2013:
The Earl was filled with sweaty bodies bouncing in every way possible while shouting Big Freedia’s call-and-response hooks. She invited crowd members on stage and encouraged hardcore rump shaking. Her DJ spun fast-paced heavy bass beats while her entourage booty bounced in ways I didn’t know were possible. There wasn’t a single person in that room standing still. Freedia’s devotion to supplying the party with the fuel to booty bounce was sincere. It was the most fun I’ve had at a show all year.
Big Freedia finally came to Savannah last weekend — it was just the second night of her nationwide Azz Across America tour with Low Cut Connie — and I’ve been thinking about that amazing night ever since. Hot, hot, hot.
Low Cut Connie got the night off to a great start — if a late start because the show was pushed back so it wouldn’t conflict with Savannah’s first ever pride parade — and then Big Freedia and her thrilling corps of dancers took us all to church.
I took a lot of photos with my little Fuji x100t, but I didn’t try to move around at all during Big Freedia — I liked my spot just stage left. Click on through for lots more
