New Breed Brass Band + Ambrose at the Lucas Theatre

A few weeks back, the Savannah Children’s Choir held a big fund- and friend-raiser at the gorgeous Lucas Theatre. The SCC reached out to MusicFile Productions (parent company of Savannah Stopover, which is headed by Kayne Lanahan who contributes occasionally to this blog) for some help with booking the event.

And that’s how the exuberant, raw-in-a-good-way New Breed Brass Band from New Orleans ended up thrilling a crowd that numbered well into the hundreds. The New Orleans-based band is co-managed by Trombone Shorty. By the end of the set, there were even children dancing on stage. Great stuff all around.

Savannah’s Ambrose opened with their signature melding of soul, hip-hop, jazz, and blues. It was clear that most of the audience was not familiar with Ambrose — and it was just as clear that they want to see and hear the dynamic ensemble again. Click on through for some more photos.
